IBM and AMD Forge Quantum Computing Partnership
IBM and AMD have announced a strategic collaboration to develop quantum-centric supercomputing systems. The partnership aims to integrate IBM's quantum processors with AMD's classical computing hardware—CPUs, GPUs, and AI accelerators—creating a hybrid architecture designed to tackle problems beyond the reach of traditional systems.
Quantum computing leverages qubits, which transcend binary limitations to process complex scenarios like molecular simulations. Meanwhile, classical supercomputers will handle data-intensive workloads. The companies plan to release open-source software tools, including IBM's Qiskit platform, to support these hybrid workflows, with an initial use case demonstration expected later this year.
